ROKR Romantic Notes Wall Clock

Clock is beautiful and fun to build over the course of a full day, however, if you have built it and are frustrated by the pendulum / gear system you just spent hours assembling ... try this. 1) Page 6 (bottom right) says to build the ratchet gear system for the string and ensure that the grey part only rotates clockwise. THIS IS INCORRECT. This step and ratchet needs to be completely reversed. This means that it should only rotate counter-clockwise and the heavy weight will hang to the right side of the clock instead. Other than this the ratchet gear assembly is inserted into the clock with the rest of the gears the same. (be careful to avoid breaking the wood when removing this assembly from the inside of the clock!) 2) Once the ratchet is reversed and the weights swapped sides, test to see if the gears will begin rotating by dropping the pendulum arm. At this point it should move even if for a few seconds. If it does not, assess the placement of the gear teeth and rigidity of motion in the clock. 3) from here minor tweaks are required for the pendulum to rock longer. Some things to try... a) add more weight to the heavy weight container (the added strain will keep the wishbone looking part/pendulum moving b) Place on the wall in a permanent spot and ensure the clock does not move besides the pendulum arm c) Add a large coin (2 half dollars or 1 eisenhower dollar) to the bottom of the pendulum arm. Its a pendulum which usually means there is some weight there besides just wood. The weight is needed to keep the momentum going for the pendulum (its a rhythm/battle between the weight strain and the pendulum momentum) d) Use the screws on the bottom sides to COMPLETELY suspend the pendulum arm from the wall and to adjust the gravity of the arm to keep the gears moving. This is a bit of an art and will take time to allow the clock to run and make tiny adjustments. I hope this was helpful and makes your clock a functional home centerpiece!
