Space Shuttle Endeavor is named after the famous ship HMS Endeavor, which too Captain Cook on his first voyage of discovery in 1768. It was the fifth and final NASA space shuttle to be built and was the replacement for the Space Shuttle Challenger. Structural spares from Discovery and Atlantis orbiters were used in its assembly. Congress authorized its construction in 1987.
